2016 Smith Wooton Petite Sirah, Sierra Foothills

A first vintage from Smith Wooton. Deep purple in the glass. Our rich and opulent Petite Sirah offers aromas of blackberries, lavender and baking spices. Deep and complex flavors black cherry, plums and black pepper build on the palate. There is nothing petite about this wine as its well structured and firm tannins lead to a long lingering finish. The wine was produced to enjoy now but can be aged for many years to come!

Smith Wooton Petite Sirah is an opulent wine with dense fruit character. The fine tannins accentuate the depth of the concentrated palate displaying rich, dark fruit and spices. This wine showcases a long luxurious finish and classic Petite Sirah characteristics.

Tasting Notes

This beautifully dark purple Petite Sirah opens with black cherries and cassis leading to blackberry preserves and baking spices. This medium to full bodied Petite Sirah is balanced with firm tannins, fresh herbs and a peppery long finish.

Production Notes

This wine received two week maceration and cold soak. 100% hand punch downs during fermentation. The wine was moved to barrel where it aged 26 months in 30% new French and American Oak.

Winemaker Notes

The Sierra Foothills are perfectly suited to producing fantastic Petite Sirah grapes. This wine was born out of a love of the varietal and the foods the wine pairs with. Pair this wine slow roasted short ribs, aged gouda cheese, sauteed mushrooms and caramelized onions.
